Coaching and supervision approach

My coaching and supervision is based on a fundamental belief in people's ability to find their own solutions, with my role being to facilitate and catalyse the development process. My intention for coaching and supervision is to provide a non-judgemental, congruent, empathetic and compassionate space, in which clients can develop and transform with the help of my mindful presence, listening, reflecting, clarifying and questioning. My approach to coaching and supervision is integrative and responsive to client needs, drawing on systemic, person-centred, solution-focussed, mindfulness-based and other psychological models as appropriate.

In order to have the best possible evidence-base for my work, I am actively involved in research; and, conversely, my coaching and consultancy with a range of organisations ensures that the research is of genuine use in real-world settings. I am passionate about taking an evidence-based approach to all my work and understand the benefits of drawing on a range of types of evidence, including practitioner expertise and local understanding of the context, as well as practitioner and academic research. I am currently undertaking doctoral research that brings together my wish to support leaders to manage people well and my love of interpersonal/relational mindfulness.

I also draw on the breadth of my experience to inform my coaching and supervision practice. In addition to my work as a coach and supervisor, I am Director of Affinity Health at Work, a specialist consultancy that works with organisations to achieve sustainable business performance through improvements in employee health, wellbeing and engagement. I am an author, conference speaker and media commentator: my writing and presenting includes sharing freely available, online guidance and tools, developed through my and my colleagues' research. I am also active in the public policy domain, as a member of the Health and Safety Executive's Workplace Health Expert Committee. I build on my 12 years' previous experience of working in international relations and communications in a variety of organisations in the UK and overseas.
