Peter is a highly respected and experienced “master coach”. He founded Strategic Development Consultants 27 years ago following a successful career as a banker, treasurer, government advisor, and turnaround specialist. He now supports CEOs, board members, private equity investors, operating partners, and asset/hedge fund managers. He has a strong commitment to the establishment and maintenance of the highest professional standards in coaching.

About my Practice 

As an early pioneer in the field of executive coaching before the potential and power of coaching in business was fully recognised, I was an early founder, board and faculty member of the AoEC (Academy of Executive Coaching).

Most of my assignments are at board or partner level. I also work with operating partners in private equity, asset and hedge fund managers as well as developing talent for promotion from ED to MD and main board positions.

I combine my disciplined background as a qualified accountant, my pragmatic business skills and my experience as a turnaround specialist with the transformational insights gained from my Gestalt psychology training. I assist my clients to identify their latent abilities and their “internal saboteurs” to ensure that their winning formulae are refreshed and renewed. This empowers them to successfully navigate new cultures, challenges and the tectonic shifts in their business worlds.  

Experience as an Executive Coach 

I have been a full-time business coach for 27 years.

My speciality is to support clients within their work on challenges from strategy, leadership, stakeholder, change and conflict management to promote transformation. This often involves deep-dive “meaning of life” conversations including understanding personal histories, motivations and incompletions.   

I take on a maximum of 30 clients and typically work with them for a minimum of 3 to 6 months, although some organisations prefer longer programmes.  Many of my clients have chosen to work with me at various stages of their careers and I receive a significant number of personal referrals.

I am told by my private equity clients that my style of coaching, with their CEO’s, is equally effective irrespective of whether I am working in bio-tech, e-commerce, energy, retail, construction, real estate or entertainment. 

 

Business and Organisational Experience 

Post qualifying as a chartered accountant, I became group treasurer of P&O, followed by a career in banking, advising a range of global corporates and governments on financing and investment strategies including infrastructure projects. I was a member of the management committee of what is now BarCap as global head of strategy.

  • Licensed in a range of psychometric tools

  • FCCA (including a 3-year diploma course in business studies at City of Westminster Business school)

Geography where I offer my Services 

SDC’s offices are in the City of London but I often travel to my clients.  I offer a digital service to clients Europe, North and South America, Asia, Russia, China and Australia.

  • Thirty percent of my clients are senior women executives from a range of cultures
